Film Trivia
- When this film was originally being developed in the 90s, Robin Williams, Jamie Lee Curtis, Gary Busey, Kevin Costner and Richard Gere were all being considered to star in the movie.
- Director Zack Snyder based his storyboards for this film on the panels of Alan Moore's graphic novel. He stated that in order to stay true to the original source material, the visual art should be respected as much as the written portion.
- Director Zack Snyder presented each actor with a script as well as a copy of the graphic novel. During filming he allowed the actors to carry the graphic novels around with them and to re-write dialogue in the script to match the source material.
- The picture of The Comedian shaking hands with President Nixon is based on the photograph of Richard Nixon shaking hands with Elvis Presley.
- In the graphic novel, the phrase 'Who watches the Watchmen?' is never fully seen. It is either partly blocked by something or it is never completely written. In this film the phrase appears in its entirety twice.
