Americans Vicky (Rebecca Hall) and Cristina (Scarlett Johansson) are spending the summer in Spain. They meet a flamboyant artist (Javier Bardem) and his beautiful ex-wife (Penelope Cruz). When their lives become entangled, the results are chaotic.
Film Trivia
- Javier Bardem did not know how to drive while making this movie. For his brief driving scene Bardem took hours of driving lessons but still didn't have a licence to show for his efforts when the movie was finished.
- The city of Barcelona offered to pay all the production costs if the film was shot there. The amount rose up to two million Euros from public funds.
- Woody Allen wrote the parts of Cristina and Juan Antonio with Scarlett Johansson and Javier Bardem in mind.
- This film was based on a screenplay that Woody Allen had written years earlier, but was set in San Francisco. Allen rewrote it so that it could be set in Barcelona.
- A part of the film is set in the city of Oviedo. One of the sights in Oviedo which was not featured in the film is a life size statue of Woody Allen.
