- This film was inspired by the Bank of Credit & Commerce International scandal that took place in the 1980s and early 1990s.
- An explosive shootout scene takes place at New York's famous Guggenheim Museum, in which the building appears to take severe damage. To achieve this a full-scale replica was built using the original blueprints.
- This film was going to be released in August 2008, but was pushed back in order to film more action scenes. By the time of the film's theatrical release in February 2009, the world was experiencing one of the worst banking crises in history.
- In a bizarre interview to promote this movie, Clive Owen talked about his fear of badgers and his dislike of biscuits, 'because He-men don't need biscuits'.
