FILM TRIVIA:
>Directed by Australian director Roger Donaldson who has directed such critically acclaimed films as ‘No Way Out’, ‘Cocktail’, ‘The Recruit’ and most recently ‘The Bank Job’.
>This was Natasha Henstridge’s first major film role, as alien Sil. She was just 21 years old at the time. Immediately following this production, she took a part in a Jean-Claude Van Damme film – ‘Maximum Risk’.
>Henstridge was a model at the time that she found out that she got the part in the film. She quit modelling immediately once she took the part.
>Creature designs in the film were done by the legendary artist H.R. Geiger. Geiger also designed the original aliens for the ‘Alien’ franchise. Geiger won an Oscar for his designs of the ‘Alien’ creature.
>The film includes two Oscar winners in the form of Sir Ben Kingsley and Forest Whitaker.
>Marg Helgenberger stars as Dr. Laura Baker. Helgenberger is best known as Catherine Willows on the long-running ‘C.S.I. – Crime Scene Investigation’.
>Popular voice over artist Frank Welker plays the voice of the alien creature. He is perhaps best known for his role as Megatron in the ‘Transformers’ animated series.
>’Dawson’s Creek’ actress Michelle Williams plays the young version of Sil.
>The film has spawned three additional sequels. Of the other films, Henstridge appears in two of them. There is a fourth film called ‘Species: The Awakening’ which was released directly to video in 2007 and is the first to not feature Henstridge as Sil.
>Later on, Henstridge appeared in ‘South Park’ and was credited as ‘The Chick From Species’.
>Henstridge and co-star Anthony Guidera, who plays a man who first picks up Sil, won an award at the 1996 MTV Movie Awards for ‘Best Kiss’. They beat out Antonio Banderas and Salma Hayek amongst others, for the honour!
