Film Trivia
- While Johnny Depp was filming a scene an 11-year-old boy approached him. He asked Depp if he could have his fedora hat. Depp said he would see what he could do about it and once the movie was finished he sent the hat to the boy in the post.
- Christian Bale has claimed that despite starring alongside Johnny Depp he barely knows him. They spent about 10 minutes chatting, but both actors preferred not to talk to each other until they were filming a scene.
- Leonardo DiCaprio was originally going to star as John Dillinger when this film was considered in 2004.
- In the scene where Baby Face Nelson shoots an agent he says 'I know you sons of b*****s wear vests so I'm gonna hit you high and low'. Nelson reportedly said this in real life before he shot an agent.
- Christian Bale has said that working with director Michael Mann is a highlight in his career. He admired Mann's devotion to the subject matter and the amount of research he put into the story.
