Johnny Depp plays the eccentric Captain Jack Sparrow in this epic pirate adventure. A group of pirates led by Captain Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush) kidnap a Governor's daughter (Keira Knightley), so it is up to Jack and Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) to save her.

Film Trivia

• This film is based on the Pirates of the Caribbean Disney theme-park ride. A number of scenes in this movie make visual nods to the ride, such as the prisoners enticing the dog with jail keys in his mouth.
• When the producers of this film expressed concern over Johnny Depp's bizarre take on the character, as a compromise the actor agreed to take out a few of the gold teeth he had asked a dentist to insert into his mouth.
• When returning from a night shoot on one of the Caribbean islands, Keira Knightley's small boat sank. She was with her mother and the boat's skipper who were all rescued after a few hours.
• Clothing and smears of charcoal were used to cover Johnny Depp's numerous tattoos. The Jack Sparrow tattoo on his arm is a fake, but once filming was finished he got a real one in honour of his son, Jack.
• Johnny Depp has admitted that his performance was based on Rolling Stones member Keith Richards. This is because Depp felt that pirates were the 18th century equivalent of rock stars.
