• Although they share a number of scenes, Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson only spent one day on the set together. When Wilson wasn't available, Stiller had to talk to a toothpick for the Jebediah scenes.
• Owen Wilson's role as Jebediah was originally only supposed to be a cameo. But the character was so successful with test audiences that more scenes were added.
• Several weeks were spent training Crystal the Monkey to slap and bite Ben Stiller.
• Anne Meara, who plays the woman at the unemployment office, is Ben Stiller's mother.
