Film Trivia
- The picture of Miss Honey's father, Magnus, is a portrait of Roald Dahl, the author of the book this film is based on.
- Mara Wilson, who plays Matilda, suffered a tragedy while filming when her mother passed away from breast cancer. Despite this, Wilson pressed on and bravely finished the film which impressed her adult co-stars.
- Pam Ferris would stay in character while on set in an attempt to make the child actors scared of her so their fear would be genuine while the camera was rolling.
- Danny DeVito revealed that to make the chalk write by itself on the blackboard a magnet was used.
