Kirsten Dunst stars in this biopic of the infamous queen, Marie Antoinette. At the age of 14 it is arranged for her to marry the king (Jason Schwartzman). But as the years pass she matures into a young woman and becomes the queen of France.

• The French government gave director Sofia Coppola special permission to film in the Palace Of Versailles. She was even offered the giant iron keys to the palace's most off-limit rooms.
• Director Sofia Coppola asked Spanish shoe designer Manolo Blahnik to create hundreds of specially made shoes for the film.
• Director Sofia Coppola based the look of Count Axel von Fersen, played by Jamie Dornan, on the 80s pop singer Adam Ant.
• In one scene a pair of blue trainers are visible. Director Sofia Coppola claims that this was intentional as it showed that Marie Antoinette was a typical teenager despite the time she lived in.
