- Before filming began, director Armando Iannucci accessed the US Department of State simply by flashing a photo ID card and saying 'BBC. I'm here for the 12:30'. He then spent a few hours walking around and taking pictures for his set designers.
- This film was based on the television series The Thick Of It, which was also written and directed by Armando Iannucci and starred Peter Capaldi and Chris Addison.
