Film Trivia

  • Joe Pesci kept forgetting that he was in a family film and every time his character started ranting he would say f**k. Director Chris Columbus advised him to say fridge instead and this is why his character says the word so much during his outbursts.
  • John Candy's role in this film was shot in one day, despite being in several scenes.
  • Robert De Niro was offered the role of Harry but he turned it down.
  • Although the role of Kevin was written specifically for Macaulay Culkin, director Chris Columbus auditioned several hundred kids for the role to confirm that Culkin was right for the part.
  • The posters for this movie featured Macaulay Culkin screaming with his hands on his face. This image was based on Edvard Munch's famous painting The Scream.
