Anais Nin encounters fellow author Henry Miller and his wife June (Uma Thurman) in Paris in this sensual biopic. Anais' encounter with the couple leads to her expanding her own sexual horizons both with her husband and others. Co stars Kevin Spacey.

• This movie was the first to earn an NC-17 rating in America. An extremely brief shot of Anais looking at an explicit postcard earned it this rating.
• Director Philip Kaufman met the real Anais Nin in 1962.
• Fred Ward wore blue contact lenses over his brown eyes to better resemble Henry Miller.
• Alec Baldwin was originally cast as Henry Miller but pulled out two weeks prior to filming.
