Film Trivia
- Daniel Radcliffe discovered that he had won the part of Harry Potter while he was having a bath.
- Robbie Coltrane, who plays Hagrid, was the first person to be cast in this movie.
- Richard Harris claims that he only agreed to the part of Albus Dumbledore because his 11-year-old granddaughter threatened not to speak to him again if he didn't.
- Alan Rickman was hand-picked by author J.K Rowling for the role of Severus Snape. Rowling gave Rickman special instructions regarding his character, including vital details of Snape's back-story not revealed until the final novel.
- In the US this film was released as Harry Potter And The Sorcerer's Stone. Because of this every scene mentioning the stone had to be recorded twice with the cast members saying both 'Sorcerer' and 'Philosopher'.
