• This film was inspired by the classic Brothers Grimm Fairy Tales.
• Sarah Michelle Gellar was married to Freddie Prinze Jr at the time this film was made. They had worked together before in a number of films including Scooby-Doo and Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed.
• This was the last film George Carlin made before his death in 2008.
• The original actor who was set to play Rumplestiltskin died during the making of this film and was replaced with Michael McShane.
• Most of the backgrounds in this film are not animated, but are actually paintings.
