• Henry Winkler, who had become a hit starring as the Fonze on Happy Days, turned down the role of Danny for fear of being typecast.
• Olivia Newton-John had to be sewn into the trousers she wears at the end of the film because one of the zips broke.
• The 'You're The One That I Want' routine took just one afternoon to film. Reportedly director Randal Kleiser hated the song.
• All of the love bites on Rizzo's neck were real and were applied personally by Jeff Conaway.
• This film was based on the long-running Broadway musical by the same name.
