Film Trivia

  • The title for this movie came from a phrase that Edward R. Murrow would say at the end of his television broadcasts.
  • Joseph McCarthy isn't played by an actor in this film so all footage of him is real. George Clooney claims that many people have asked him who the actor is who plays McCarthy.
  • Edward R. Murrow smokes a lot in this film but David Strathairn was a non-smoker. He decided to smoke pipe tobacco in his cigarettes as he found the taste to be less objectionable.
  • The entire set for this movie was built on one large stage. The elevator interior was built on a turntable so that it could be rotated to a new area of the set during unbroken shots.
  • This was the first black and white film to be nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards since The Elephant Man in 1980.
