• Danny DeVito's character, Martin Weir, is allegedly based on Elmore Leonard's own dealings with Dustin Hoffman.
• Michael Keaton, Bruce Willis, Robert De Niro, Al Pacino and Dustin Hoffman all turned down the role of Chili Palmer.
• Harvey Keitel has a cameo in this film. He plays the Dennis Farina character, Ray Barboni, in the film within the film.
