Film Trivia

  • Sergio Leone originally wanted Lee Marvin for the role of Douglas Mortimer.
  • Lee Van Cleef claims he was quicker drawing his gun than Clint Eastwood. It only took three frames of film, which is an eighth of a second, for him to draw, cock and fire his gun.
  • The Man With No Name, calls himself Monco in this film. Monco is the Italian word for 'one armed'. In the film Clint Eastwood only uses his left hand to eat, fight and drink, whilst his right hand remains under his poncho and on the butt of his gun.
  • This is the second film in the dollars trilogy directed by Sergio Leone. Throughout the entire duration of making the trilogy, Clint Eastwood's poncho was never washed.
  • Clint Eastwood talks fondly about how director Sergio Leone would often host boozy two hour lunches with the cast.
