Romantic period drama starring Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman. A hot-headed Irishman runs off with the fiesty daughter of his despised lanlord so they can seek their fortunes in 19th Century America.
FILM TRIVIA:
>This was the second film of three that Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman made together. It followed Days of Thunder (Where they first met) and it preceded Eyes Wide Shut.
>One of the largest criticisms levelled towards the film were the accents. Nicole Kidman’s accent is technically incorrect, since as an upper-class Irish woman she would have had an English accent, but the producers didn’t want to confuse the audience so they gave her an educated Irish accent instead.
>This was the first film to use Panavision Super 65 cameras which were a derivative of Super Panavision 70 which gave films an epic widescreen effect. Previous films to use this technique include Lawrence of Arabia and 2001: A Space Odyssey. This technique was abandoned after Kenneth Brannagh’s Hamlet in 1996, mostly because it was expensive.
