Will Smith plays an innocent lawyer who receives key evidence of a political assassination. He becomes the target of a corrupt politician (Jon Voight) and is forced to go on the run with the help of an ex-intelligence operative (Gene Hackman).

Film Trivia

• Gabriel Byrne's character looks and dresses exactly like Travis Bickle, Robert De Niro's character in Taxi Driver. He also drives Will Smith's character away in a taxi.
• Both Tom Cruise and Mel Gibson were considered for the part which eventually went to Will Smith.
• Gene Hackman turned down the chance to star in this film on multiple occasions. It was only after a phone call from Tony Scott that Hackman changed his mind. Will Smith signed on just because he wanted to work with Hackman.
• Seth Green, who plays one of the main surveillance guys in the van, is not listed in the opening or closing credits.
• The Ruby lingerie store is actually the doctored store front of a well-known gay bookstore in Washington, DC.
