Two high school students from opposite sides of the tracks fall in love. Jay Hernandez plays a poor Latino boy who becomes the object of a spoilt girl's attention (Kirsten Dunst). They fight to stay together despite their obvious lifestyle differences.

Film Trivia

• Kirsten Dunst's character was originally supposed to have a nude scene in this movie. But instead the director made her wear a cut off t-shirt and underwear.
• Many of the high school scenes were shot at a real high school. Director John Stockwell wanted actual students to be in the film and most of them had no acting experience at all.
• In one scene Nicole buries Carlos in a hole in the sand. The caption on the picture says I Love Nicole. In the script, the caption said In Nicole's Hole, but was changed to I Love Nicole to get a lower rating.
• Jay Hernandez had to learn most of his Spanish lines phonetically because he didn't speak fluent Spanish.
