Film Trivia

• This film is based on the graphic novel of the same name by Neil Gaiman. Prior to becoming a film it was adapted into a stage musical in New York.
• One crew member was hired specifically to knit miniature sweaters and other clothing for the puppets. The knitting needles that were used were as thin as human hair.
• 28 puppets of various sizes were used for the character of Coraline. The main Coraline puppet stood 9.5 inches tall.
• It took ten people working for three to four months to construct one Coraline puppet.
• In the initial recording sessions Dawn French played Miss Spink and Jennifer Saunders played Miss Forcible. But director Henry Selick wasn't happy with the result and so he asked them to switch roles and re-record their parts.
