Keanu Reeves plays a supernatural detective who can see good and evil spirits. He meets a police detective (Rachel Weisz) looking into the death of her sister. Together they team up in a desperate bid to save humanity from evil.

Film Trivia

• This film is based on the comic book series called Hellblazer. The title was changed to Constantine as the filmmakers thought that the title Hellblazer sounded too similar to Hellboy, another comic book adaptation.
• The appearance of hell was based on old footage of nuclear tests, hence the crumbling landscape. The original script had hell appear as a black void with oil covering the floor.
• As part of the preparation for her role as a detective, Rachel Weisz visited a morgue.
• Rachel Weisz performed the stunt where she is pulled backwards through the building herself. The look was achieved by suspending her vertically by ropes. This image was then rotated 90 degrees in editing to achieve the final effect.
• Keanu Reeves bought the Holy Shotgun prop and gave it to director Francis Lawrence as a gift.
