  • This film's London premiere was accompanied by a recording of Charles Bronson introducing the film. The British Prison Officers' Association complained that it was illegal to make unauthorised recordings of prison inmates.
  • Danish director Nicolas Winding Refn had never heard of Charles Bronson before the script for this film was given to him.
  • Director Nicolas Winding Refn claims that he had no desire to meet Charles Bronson because he knew what angle he wanted to take for the story without Bronson's interference.
  • Tom Hardy spent five weeks bulking up for his role as Charles Bronson. The film had originally been scheduled to shoot a year earlier and Hardy had also bulked up for it then.
  • Matt King, who stars as Bronson's fight promoter Paul, is most famous for his role as Super Hans on the hit television series Peep Show.
