Adam Sandler stars as a lazy rich boy who spends his days poolside, drinking beer. But his father tells him that if he wants to inherit the family business he needs to go back to primary school. But problems arise when he falls in love with his teacher.

• This film was once quoted in a judgement by a Texas bankruptcy court, dismissing the defendant's plea 'for being incomprehensible'. The judge quoted the competition judge who tells Billy that he is an idiot.
• Charles Bronson turned down the role of Billy Madison's father.
• At one point in the movie Billy grabs Eric's face, kisses him and says 'You broke my heart'. This is a reference to The Godfather: Part II, in which Michael (Al Pacino) does the same thing to his brother.
• All the names on Danny McGrath's (Steve Buscemi) People To Kill List are those of the crew members.
• The lunch lady serving terrible food is a reference to Adam Sandler's popular song Lunch Lady Land from his album They're All Gonna Laugh At You.
