After his parents are killed, Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) decides to become a crime fighter. He reinvents himself as Batman and takes on the villain known as Scarecrow (Cillian Murphy). Co stars Michael Caine, Liam Neeson, Katie Holmes and Gary Oldman.

• Marilyn Manson was considered for the role of The Scarecrow.
• Much of Batman's equipment and costume was based on real military technology.
• Before filming began Christopher Nolan invited the entire cast and crew to watch a screening of Blade Runner. When the film was over he said 'this is how we are going to make Batman'.
• While filming the scene where Christian Bale and Liam Neeson fight on a frozen lake, the actors could hear the ice cracking beneath their feet. The next day they discovered that the lake had completely melted.
• While giving interviews to promote this movie, Christian Bale kept his American accent. He explains that this was because he didn't want people to be confused about why Batman was being played by a Welshman.
