Film Trivia

• Anthony Hopkins plays Col. John Frost. The real Frost worked as a consultant on this movie. Frost often told Hopkins off for running when there was gun fire. Frost claimed he would show disdain for enemy fire and walk instead.
• Michael Caine claims that director Richard Attenborough did not tell him that a string of dummy tanks were going to be blown up. His shocked reaction in the scene is genuine.
• Steve McQueen and Audrey Hepburn were originally cast in this movie as Julian Cook and Kate Ter Horst. But they dropped out when Hepburn's salary was too high and McQueen only wanted to appear in starring roles.
• James Caan agreed to appear in this film when Richard Attenborough flew out to LA to speak with him. Attenborough offered him several roles, but Caan chose Eddie Dohun based on the scene where he forces a surgeon to operate at gunpoint.
• Stuntman Alf Joint was badly injured while making this film. He jumped off a roof and missed the air mattress completely. He was rushed to hospital and when he woke up he told friends he felt like he had been pushed off.
